STYLE.PLAY.WORK.SHOP. -- Round II

When first came across the styling workshop created by Compai and the design blog Minted Condition I knew I wanted to play along!

It's called STYLE.PLAY.WORK.SHOP. and is designed to be a fun experiment in styling a still life with household objects.  I am joining for the first time in Round II using the following objects:

Ribbon, Envelope, Jewelry, Squash, Bottle

I had all of these things around the house as promised.  Although, I have to admit that I looked up types of squash to confirm a pumpkin is one -- silly, I know!

I waited for a sunny weekend to play with setting up this picture -- which happened to be this past weekend -- and picked things that complimented the coloring of the other objects.  I may have started with the pumpkin and added things from there.  It also took me some time to decide where I wanted to do this set up.  I was thinking of light, but also what the background would be.  The other interesting aspect I considered is what story would this image tell?  I am still not 100% sold on my own story, but doesn't it look like I am going to have a glass of wine and write up some note cards on my coffee table?

I did add some extra items (hope that's ok) to fill in some of the blanks for myself.  I added a wine glass, pen, stamps, cards, and small plate holding jewelry.

Well, anyway... enough of me rambling.  Here are the results.  I'm happy with how they came out for a first attempt and have to admit that I had a lot of fun in the process!

And yes, my trusty assistant was close by (as always) and even got into the shoot a little bit.  I keep telling her that surely they must have a future round that includes a dog.  That seemed to satisfy her for now!

Please check out the other participants in this flickr group here and also if this has you smiling ear to ear and you would like to join in, then please head here to find out about what objects we will be presented with in the next round!!

This pop of color and my blue jewelry are serving as my Midweek Blues entry hosted by Rebbeca over at The Dusty Cellar.

I hope you will check out other cures for the Midweek Blues there!

Proper use of snow

All this talk about snow.  It never ends.

Lesson #46: The Proper Use of Snow.

And this.

And Katie adds... this.

Of course now that I am at peace with snow.  We are getting a humungo wave of rain.  I mean I can hardly wait for a reason to break out my rain boots, but I had so much planned for snowdog making, sledding, and fort building.

Back to the drawing board to figure out why rain is amazing.

I'd like to offer a start to the list of Reason's why rain is amazing:

1.  You don't have to shovel it.

Happiness is making awesome things out of what you already have in hand!

Das Bubbles

Sometimes you need and excuse try something new and celebrate a "Why the Heck Not Day" with a bottle of bubbly.  I tried the new Barefoot White Zinfandel Champagne.  It was a fun treat!

I really like how the bubbles look like fireworks or a volcano erupting on the surface.  This was the first time I tried to photograph moving bubbles and have to say I laughed A LOT in the process!

My "Why the Heck Not Day" was this past Sunday... when will your "Why the Heck Not Day" be?

Recharge!

Ahhh... vacation.  Time to recharge, sleep in, and find new ways to reach happiness!

I took a much needed break to do this and man 'o man am I back!  I have some pretty neat things to share with you too!

So, what does recharging look like?  Let me dig through some photos and see if you agree that they are the definition of recharging....

Here... we... go!

Recharging is seeing a row of kissing balls and thinking about how much you want to smooch!

Recharging is drinking a cold one in the sunshine!

Recharging probably means a lot of different to each of us.  It's funny too... my idea of recharging my batteries is mingling in a huge room full of funny, smiling people!  Ok, I'll take them even if they aren't funny.

One last try at it.

Recharging is your favorite goldie with a tiny little ribbon-bow around her head!

Tell me the last one doesn't recharge you and I send a doc over pronto... to check your head.

Ya, she melts me every time!!

And I've got plenty more where that came from!

Glad to be back :)

Perfume

Putting on your favorite scent and catching whiffs of it throughout the day = happiness!

Perfume is a very personal thing and I think it's very interesting that several people could wear the same perfume and yet it smells somewhat different on each of them. There are certain smells that really bring back great memories for me and then their are smells like chocolate or lavender that are very relaxing and take me to a very happy place!

What scent are you wearing today?
