This week's theme is Kitchen. Wait, wha? Like I should draw my kitchen? Oh no. Not good. What could really be so interesting about a kitchen. Hmmm. ...days of thought later....
Funny story ---------- by now you may know... and if you your new in these parts, welcome! and I'll tell you... I have a five month old puppy. Sammy... Sammy as in Samantha, ...is a golden retriever which is code word for too smart for her own good. And did I mention that she is getting taller/longer/faster/nosier?
Do you see where this is heading? Yup, countersurfing. I think countersurfing is technically defined as a pup taking whatever they want off the counter... whenever they want to. Oh, big trouble! Katie, our four and 1/2 year old golden, also went through this very phase. I thought I was well prepared. And Sammy has schooled me that I am most certainly not. And on the very same breath.. how cute is this picture!!
And so, we work on the commands "take it" and "leave it" ... as in take that toy of yours on the ground, and leave that yummy bacon on the counter. And I am also learning to cook with my new kitchen buddy and it normally ends with me laughing so hard when she ends up with something like flour on her nose. The whole experience led me down the path to a fun "kitchen scene" that I otherwise wouldn't have thought of... and boy am I glad I did!!
Creative-wise I did things a little differently this time, since Creative Tuesday is all about exploring styles. I started with card stock paper, doodled the scene in pencil, traced it in pen, and then scanned it to the computer. Then colored it all in using GIMP -- which is a free software download. Phew.
Interesting exercise. I have so much to learn about digital coloring, if I may use that term, but I loved the experience. And here is the result! For those of you wondering... this is Sammy in the drawing. Katie is so tall she can just put her head on the counter without jumping.
I hope you consider joining in this or the next assignment (really hope you do) and please take a look other artists in the community here.
I'd like to add that Sammy's good cooking will also be linked at Tasty Tuesday where you can share your tastiest things and pawsome recipes!

I LOVE your illustrations! And I LVOE your fabric with the dog & birds! You excel at fabric design! I feel like so many other participants tried to make what's already out there or already loved. You made something creative, and it sings!!

I'm so glad you did too, Christie. Very funny and sweet drawing. You;ll get the hand of GIMP in time. fun to change colours too, btw.
I can so imagine Sammy with powdered nose and so on. LOL. Love this:"Yup, countersurfing."--HA! Never heard that before.
you know, I am particualrly drawn to the line art on this one so want to included that as well as the colour version if you don't mind. TY for the plug and for the story, to boot. Funny and even inspiring, really
Oh, i forgot to say, I love your title too. :)
Oh, I am laughing! I can relate a little back when we had inside cats. But cats come clear up on the counter to help themselves. Even if they are punished, you can hear them leaping down in the night when they know you are sleeping. ha.
At least with dogs, they clean up every little crumb on the floor for you. Hardly the need for a vacuum. :)
so cute and HAPPY, like always! :)
How fun...love the sketch to color! Perfect kitchen for the challenge! :)
Oh this is so dang cute! I love those frosting paw prints... Love your creativity and your story!!
Cute story and illustration
Hi Sammy! You see you made your mom create even she didn't feel like that! I love that picture and especially Sammy and the spot of her paws all around!

Great illustration and story....
So very cute! Puppies are like that, nosy and getting into everything, guess you won't be leaving bowls of anything on your counter? :-)

Oh this is adorable. I love it!!!
What a wonderful story to go with a wonderful drawing. Both made me smile.
Love the story behind the picture. I could so imagine Sammy "cooking up a storm" in the kitchen with you! lol
Glad you captured this phase in her life with your sketch.
Totally Fabulous!!

Love the dog illustration ! Awesome! ~ Thanks, namaste, (Share the Creative Journey) ^_^

Darling! ...and all doggies as cute as that one, can cook in my kitchen any time...! I'll share!
This may be sammy in the pic but its also Mr. Biscuit. Thankfully he'll never be tall enough to reach anything but he tries. Thanks for posting at the Rhinestone Beagle!
I love the picture! How incredibly awesome!! Kol loves to "help" in the kitchen and I am constantly working on commands like "OFF", "LEAVE IT" and "DOWN", plus the super embarrassing, but highly effective "For barking out loud Kolchak, KNOCK IT OFF!".
