Creative Tuesday: Beatles Song (#67)

It's Creative Tuesday time!  Today's meme was Beatles Songs.  You know that English group that was pretty popular back 60's/70's?  Ya, before I was born, ha!  Well, the challenge is to pick your favorite Beatles song and create a drawing inspired by it.  So, I bet your dying to know what my favorite song is, right?

Me too.

I admit I've heard of the Beatles.  I can even openly say I think I like their music.  Then, I pondered about what my favorite song was.

Drew a total blank.

Then, I tried to think of any song by the Beatles.

Again.  Total blanksville.  I admit, connecting music artists and their song names isn't a strong skill for me.  (I can hear the Mister laughing at that.)  Thank goodness for Google!  After about 5 minutes I was off and rolling and couldn't get the song "Love is All You Need" out of my head.

Perfect!  I had my muse!  I got my acrylic paints out for this one.  I've been wanting to see how they might mix into a multimedia piece.  I started with a base of red tissue paper, pink and green fabric, and that piece of striped cardboard.

Layering is my favorite part, I applied a bunch of acrylic paint with a paint brush and bubble wrap.  The hardest part of using paint for me... is waiting for it to dry.  Who's with me?

Thank goodness for distractions.  While the piece dried I set out to add more texture to the Sammy piece that you might remember from a previous Creative Tuesday.  I will be showing off the finish tomorrow for the Pet's on Quilts parade!!

Once the paint was dry, I glued on a bit of lime green tissue paper, and a few torn pieces of origami paper.  Then doodled around with sharpie markers in lots of colors to outline, trace, or emphasize.

Totally soothing.
Totally creative.
Totally creating without concern or plans.

And I admit, I adore the results of that crazy mind of mine.

I also adore these two lovable pups who wouldn't let me out of their sight last night.  That's Katie on the left and Sammy super-manning on the right.

Anyway, here's a better look at the results of my mixed media craziness.  I see many more of these pieces, in this style, in my future.  I have even thought about how I might be able to better bring this style to my quilting.

And of course I had to instagram it!  I can't remember exactly what filter I used, but I love the way it faded the piece and made it seem like old school rock and roll.  I'm also excited that this is my third piece that I found a way to incorporate fabric in an unexpected way!

And, I'll leave you with a snap of the lake down the road.  It was so peaceful, so calm, so serene this morning!  Sure gets my creative juices bubbling!

Wishing you endless creativity and all the time you need to capture it!

The 5 O'Clock Puppy

Sammy, our youngest golden pup has this thing about her and I feel an overwhelming need to tell you about it today.

(And for the record Katie is the dog in these pictures. Confusing? maybe, but let me explain.)

Sammy is certainly...

...cute
...sweet
...loud
...affectionate
...silly
...smart

All the things you would normally expect to describe a puppy.

But, as I started out, she has this thing about her.  She wakes up at basically five in the morning. Every day!

It doesn't matter how late I keep her up, how much exercise or stimulation she gets, or if she has free roam or is in her crate.

5AM.

Before roosters.  Where in the world was I notified that I had brought home a 5 O'Clock puppy?

Now does it make more sense why I have to show you pictures of the 'best dog ever' and the lake on a bright sunny day?  Katie could win an Olympic gold metal for sleeping in, hence, best dog ever title!

And there is no way you'd want to see pictures of what I look or feel like at 5am.

Although, I admit, that it's been a year of this early to rise puppy behavior and I am just starting to learn how to smile that early in the morning.

So you want to know what really terrifies me?

Daylight savings time.

You know when we fall back?  As in 5am becomes 4am.

Terrifiying, dark, cold, early, snowy 4am.  All I know is that this pup better be following the morning light and not the actual clock time.  I mean seriously, can you direct me to a training manual for how to train a puppy to sleep in?

This is a new one for me.

Weekend Swimming

Admittedly, most of my sewing time this weekend was spent on Prisms... and although I've made progress, it's slow going.   When I wasn't sewing I was doing everything in my power to spend time with my family.  That meant lots of hiking, taking the dogs swimming, and hanging out with the Mister.

What a great weekend!

Just even looking back on these is making me smile on this dark thunderstorm ridden morning.

Did you do any splish-splashing this weekend?

Swimmingly Good Time

We had a great weekend... hope you did too!!

And a little video of Sammy swimming to fetch a float toy and bringing it back to me.
She's such a natural!

Destination Forest

The sun is shining and I have lots of time today.  I think I'm gonna leash up the dogs and head into the woods.

And if I can finish all the chore type things quickly I might even get to squeeze in a little time behind the sewing machine.  That hawk quilt is calling me!

Happy Friday Loves... hope you are making the best of the moment!

Happy Bits {number one}

I think this is a fitting title for all those little random bits of happiness that I capture on the camera.  Sometimes the pictures tell a story, but lately I'm noticing that I am using photography to reflect on those little bits of happiness that are in each day.

Just looking through these brings me calmness!  Let's see what made me smile through the week.

Newly made spotted binding.

Sammy.  Also, newly nicknamed Sam-urai!

Doesn't she look like she is in so much trouble here?

Moving my sewing table into the sunny window.

Putting binding on the The Lake piece.

Spending gobs of time outside and watching how quickly Katie closers her eyes in a sunny spot.

Taking notice of all the bulbs that are blooming.  And I just can't get enough of rich colors!!

And Katie's big infectious smile!!

Ahhhh... see, happier, more balanced and ready for more!

Festival Of Scrappiness!!

Yesterday kicked off the Festival Of Scrappiness over at Stitched in Color!!!  Whhohohooo!!

banner from Stitched in Color!
It's a celebration of the beauty and joy of scrap quilting.. and you all know how much I love the challenge of creating with my scraps!!  And... there are prizes... tons and tons and tons of really amazing prizes!!  So, if you are on the edge of participating I hope you give in and join us!
I am going to be submitting two art quilts.. my two most recent top finishes... both done wholly from scraps which makes me beam with love!!

First up... At Sunrise, which is made from a confetti quilt style that uses toothpick sized scraps as 'paint' to create a scene.  My favorite part of this one is the texture that all those scraps and quilting creates!!  And .. I'm slacking.. still need to a fix the binding to the back... so close to calling this one done!

You can see the beginning of the piece here.

I am also going to submit my landscape quilt, called The Lake, that was done with freezer paper stencils and a bunch of yummy scraps!  I have had so much fun quilting this one... and I think I have the perfect binding picked out as well.  If I could only find a few minutes to put it on.

You can see this art quilt coming together here.

And there you have it!!  Scrappy wonderfulness abounds.. make sure even if you aren't entering to hop over and take a look at all the other entries.  It's all so really inspiring and makes me want to whip out my scraps and start something new!

Happy scrapping!
