Take a Walk

Sometimes all you need is a walk to clear your mind and put you in a happy state of mind.

Mr. Happy and I walked on the Walkway's Across the Hudson River -- very cool stuff!!

Here is the entrance to the converted railroad bridge.

It's official name is Walkway Over The Hudson.  I believe it is also a state park.

I had lots of unique photo opportunities.  I really like the contrast of what looks like a backward flag and the black chain link fence.

We kept marvelling at how it seemed like we were walking in the tree tops (since the bridge is so tall and the trees start waaaay below on the ground).

It was really a beautiful day for a walk.  Just look at this sky!

As we walked along we started to get a glimpse of the Hudson River.

Looking to the left was a park and another bridge.  Pretty stuff!

It never fails to impress me.... I live in such a pretty place.

Or I like the look of water.  Very calming.  It's pretty to see all the shades of blue together too!  The sky, water, clouds, and even land seems to have a blueish tone to it.

Another look at the bridge as we were nearing the center of the span.

(Not to take this lightly; I understand it's mean to help a potential jumper), but there are days that I could really really use this same type of sign in my office.

The center of the walkway held a plaque.

The plaque talked about the engineers who made this project happen.  Whoop whoop!!  Engineers!!

Couldn't get enough of the bridge and the currents that you could see below it.

Flag in the wind.  Beautiful sight!

Where have you walked lately?

Did you notice that walking (and talking) can really clear you mind and let your frustrations fly away in the wind?

Down by the lake

The light is lingering just a tiny bit longer these nights, which means I am able to sneak in a dog walk before it's too dark.  In NY, we do have the time switch coming up which means we will really have daylight for a walk starting next week!  (I am still mourning my lost hour from the whole spring back thing, but I'm excited for more daylight in the evening!)

What I'm getting at is that this week is the first week (in awhile) that Katie and I could head down to the lake near the house to see if we could catch the sunset.  We were a tiny bit late, but it was still gorgeous!

I have always had a thing for silhouetted tree's and this snap captures some beautiful ones!  It looks so serene and peaceful doesn't it?
In this one, you start to get a better feel of the ice loosing it's grip on the lake.

I think Katie was very happy to be down by the water sniffing around!  Ha! And check out her "get the camera outta my face" attitude in the second one.  She has so many expressions any more!

This lake was one of the things that really pushed me over the edge to buy our house.  I never dreamed I would be within walking distance to something so beautiful!

I can already see so many memories in the making: fishing, swimming, laying at the beach, going to the dog beach for Katie to swim, reserving the beach for a summer party, grilling, mingling with neighbors, and we can put a small boat in the lake!
On the shore their was a flag flapping in the wind that caught Katie's attention.  It's faded, and a bit torn, but bubbled up so much pride for me.

You see I'm a military brat (child of parents who were in the military), so I still get hit with that emotion from random things.  You should see me tear up at a football game after seeing the color guard salute or a fly over.

I also thought these photo's would make a nice contribution of Midweek Blues which is hosted by Rebbeca at The Dusty Cellar.  These aren't the bright cheery blues I ususally think of.  These are more moody, deep, and thoughtful.

Anyone can play along, link your post of any interpretation of blues: colors, moods, music, poetry...be as creative as you like!

Thank you!

I don't have a lot of words for today.  In fact, I have been putting off writing this.  But as I gathered my thoughts through the day I am feeling very strongly that it can all be said with Thank You!

Thank you for being there.

Thank you for teaching me.

Thank you for loving me.

Thank you for accepting me.

Thank you for shaping who I am today.

You are more brave than I can ever be.

You are more strong and courageous!  In short.  Thank you!

Standing under that huge American flag in Grand Central yesterday reminded me why I tear up every time I sing the national anthem and why hearing taps or a gun salute make me burst out in tears.

Thank you for giving us a country we can be proud of!

I know we don't say it enough.  Thank you!

Flag Rock

Getting ready for the Fourth of July.. thinking about fireworks, BBQ's, and American flags = happiness!

It's fun to spend some time on the weekends with a cup of coffee to look through old pictures. I took this picture on a drive to upstate NY in 2004. I really admired the bright colors and rustic look of this rock! What's your favorite part of the Fourth of July?
