Inch by Inch Art - Courage

Joining in on Remembering Paris' Inch by Inch Art on Tuesdays = happiness! (and check out the other artists by clicking on the Remembering Paris link above)

Today's theme was courage. I sat down a few times this weekend to try and draw something that to me represented courage. No easy task. So, I started looking through my old photo albums for inspiration and found these shots I took from Austin, TX in 2006.

Seeing this sculpture of a lady (in a dress) firing a canon makes be remember how proud I am of the many people before us that fought for our rights and the freedom we have today. Imagine the courage that she must have had!! I bet she didn't even think twice about her personal safety, but simply stepped up and charged forward with what needed to be done. It all shows in the expression on her face!

If I could find a way to incorporate even the smallest fraction of her courage in to my life I wouldn't find the world nearly as tough as I have lately. Let's all try and be as tough as this Canon Lady!

I so love this! If you are to do a photo this one works very well! Now, question is: who is she? Although Harriet Tubman didn't fire cannons she certainly comes across as one such woman with incredible fortitude and bravery. she is one of my heroes in fact.

Remember the Canon Lady! Yes, courage is stepping in where and when you are needed, even if you aren't 'ready' or 'trained' - at least that's what I see. Enjoyed, K

Hi,

I think you are right about that, great sculpture, and definition. I am one of these that supports womens right to serve or fire if they please just like us men.

In our country 10,000 women could protest anything, but in some countries if they did that? They would probably be cannon fodder.

Nice pics....

i love that you chose a woman subject. too many influential men in history and i think women are often overlooked (underlooked?).

she does look very determined and fierce, doesn't she? she represents the courage theme very well. good job! as for not having courage in your personal life, just take baby steps toward what you fear. if you will it, you can do it.

These are great pics and fit the theme well. We live in an amazing era - challenging at times but also offer lots of opportunities and possibilities.

Wee done - this woman surely is courageous. I love sculptures like this. What an interesting story she must have had.

It really excites me that you all got it and saw similar qualities that I did. I am still not sure who this woman was, but she is my go to image when I think I can't do something..
