Creative Tuesday: Curls (#70)

Happy Creative Tuesday

I'm so proud of myself for actually working on this week's challenge of Curls in advance of Tuesday.  I admit I didn't really have any ideas in mind, so I just let me brush wander over the page in very soft waves.  Not knowing what it would become I set the page aside and let it dry overnight.

The next morning I decided it wasn't curly enough.  It was wavy yes, but I was certain I could push the theme farther.  So, with a black sharpie I started in with the curly lines and knew I was heading in a great direction.

The result is another one of my crazy, colorful, abstracts.  And I'm smitten with it.  And because I can't resist here is the instagram of the doodle.

Hope you had as much fun with this one as I did.  And I'm looking forward to the next challenge, aren't you?

Creative Space Sneaky-peak

Here are a few things going on in my creative space.

I got a new set of fabric paints to play with.  I'm really excited to try painting and then thread painting that hawk in my mind.

I started making hand sewn mushrooms.  I need a lot of practice!  I need to work on more even stitching, hiding the thread, and that mushroom on the right doesn't seem to have the right proportions.

Sammy is constantly surfing around the room looking for fabric and shoes to steal.  And look how tall she is getting.  She can almost put her head on my desk.  That's sure to be a whole new world of trouble coming!

The baby apple tree is thriving in the window.  I'm still surprised to see all those leaves and how tall it's getting.  And yes, I talk to it!  Maybe we should name it?

Here's proof that there was sunshine flooding my desk again this morning.

I also have a whole stack of cut triangles waiting to be arranged and assembled for the Patchwork Prism quilt... you know the one that's due next Thursday.  As in one week from today.  As it panic is setting in and I'm going back and forth as to whether I should push hard and go for the deadline or not.  I think I may dedicate tomorrow to it and see how far I get.. then take it from there.

I've had this jacket pattern on my desk for nearly a month now.  Must make cute jacket!  Of course every time I go to make it... I get stuck on what fabric to use.  Silly, I know.

And I thought you'd like to see one of the art works that decorates my wall.  The colors, movement, and texture of this work are always inspiring me!

And that's a sneak peak of what's going on in my creative space.  Are you feeling creative lately?

Plant Markers

I'm getting more and more excited about "hands in the dirt" season which is right around the corner!  So, I bet you're wondering why I'm showing you a bucket full of dusty tile?

Well, aside from the fact that the Mister redid a floor... I found these leftover pieces to be the perfect material to make plant markers with!  Who's with me?

I took the pieces of tile, cleaned them off, and then drew on them with colorful sharpie markers.

And look how they turned out!!

So, I went to it and planted a few things.  Tomato's, peppermint, basil, stevia, bell peppers, and hot peppers.

I'll be putting pea seeds in this weekend.

Loving how the markers are bright and colorful and stand out!

I'll also start my spinach shortly.

And three cheers for carrots!!  The dogs especially like helping me harvest carrots!!  Not much beats eating veggies straight from the garden.

Let's hear it for hands in the dirt!!  Are you starting your garden?

Good Tea Bag Wisdom

Just a quick doodle inspired from a tea bag tag... I'm a bit quiet on this end after having my wisdom teeth out and I'm still recovering.  Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Creative Tuesday: Short and Tall

It's Tuesday!!  And, this particular Tuesday is a Creative Tuesday!  Whoop, whoop!  It's that time of the week where I open my sketch pad and see what comes out for the theme over at Mr. Toast's Creative Tuesday's assignment!

This week's theme was Short and Tall.  So many ideas popped into my head for this one.  I also decided to up the ante a bit by only using mediums within arms reach of my desk chair.  Ok, yes, I was really just being too lazy to get up and dig out my color pencils, but I have to admit that this made the assignment extra fun!

Let's see what mediums I had close by in the lantern, shall we?

I see a pencil, pens, sharpies in black, silver, and blue, a few peachy-pink and orange color pencils that weren't put away last time, and photo markers.  Good stuff to start with!

For weeks I have had mushroom houses on the brain.  It's probably an art quilt idea stewing and I still haven't worked the idea through to get started.  I decided it would be a fun concept to play with for short and tall... as in short mushrooms and tall mushrooms.

Yes, it's simple.

Yes, it has pops of color!

Yes, there is a bit of whimsy with the swing and wee little doors.

What fun to just sit and draw with no other reason than to smile and enjoy the process :)

Mr. Toast, thank you for hosting this fun Creative Tuesday routine.   I look forward to accepting your next challenge!

If you are considering joining in this or the next assignment (and I hope you do) feel free to check out other artists in the community here.

On the nerve wrecking spectrum of happy

I finally did it.  I stopped being my biggest critic for a whole whopping five minutes.  Just long enough to snap some pictures and post my doodles.

Creating art is a really personal thing.  It's another way to capture what is going on in your mind.  A way to translate how you feel.  A way to connect.  Creating, putting pencil to paper, getting those thoughts out is a happy thing!

Sharing them, on the other hand, is a little more on the nerve wrecking spectrum of happy.  That sort of happy nervousness where you know sharing is the right thing to do, but you wonder, "What will they think?"

Before I talk myself out of this post I am going to commit and just post these dang pictures and be done with it.  Here you are:

Over at Hot Toast and Jam, there are a group of crazy creatives (like me --and I mean crazy in a free spirit, lovely, incredible kinda way), who partipate in Creative Tuesday's

This rounds theme was Travel.  Here is what came out of my brain:

I would give anything to pack my bag, snag my teddy, and head off to the nearest ticket window to start some great adventure!

And with the help of yummy smelling markers, some color!

Travelling for me also means dreaming of serene places I wouldn't mind kicking up my feet and neglecting my technology.

So, there you have it.  My first time joining Creative Tuesdays!!

I have a feeling this is going to be one of these things that only gets easier!
