Total Crazed Tornado

Last week came in quietly and left like a crazed tornado.  I traveled, I gave a presentation in front of a big crowd, I took a full day training class, I left Sammy overnight for the first time, I moved and stacked a huge pile of wood the Mister chopped, I even got new fabric I haven't shared with you yet.

See what I'm saying?  Total crazed tornado!!

And I sure missed being here... and missed you!  And I can't wait to catch up on all the happenings in blog-land.. yup, I have almost 700 posts in my reader and plan to settle with a cup of coffee and read each and every one!

And I'm excited to share a bunch more this week once I get my self straightened out again.  I even got a package in the mail that made me smile ear to ear (yes, Megan the package made it safe and sound)!!

Till then... enjoy this shot of us girls!  Sammy still thinks she's a lap dog even though she is nearly 50lbs and I have to laugh that we all have bright or red alien eyes... but still a sweet photo of us all.  This was taken a few weeks ago when we were boiling sap for maple syrup... good times!!

Happy Moment #35: The Girls Club

A Friday ritual with Soulemama.  A single photo (or a few) - no words - capturing a moment from the week.  A simple, special, extraordinary, happy moment.  A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments too!

Hiking, Mushrooms, and Garden Blooms

Some of our time off and away included taking advantage of the amazing sunny weather.  I say amazing, really it has rained so much this spring/summer, so when the sun is out it feels incredible!

When it rains like it has, sometimes three inches at a shot, the weather stays a little chillier and apparently it's perfect for mushrooms!  So on our latest hike I couldn't help but marvel at all the mushrooms that aren't normally there.  Some small, some huge.  Some yellow, orange, brown, or white.

It really boggles my mind that they seem to pop out of no where.  And yes, I snuck in a slug picture.  It was as big as a twinkie.  Ok, a little smaller than a twinkie... but not a normal thing we would see on a July hike in New York.

Hiking also means time with Katie.  She loves the outdoors!  Sammy (the pup) is almost ready and cleared for hiking, but has one last round of shots to go.  This may be one of our last hikes as a family of three.

Just look at that big grin!

We have a spot that we typically go to.  It's close, it's a decent hike at some where between six and eight miles, and it's interesting!  It also has lots of big rocks to climb on and marvel at.  Rocks that were dropped by glaciers a long long time ago.  Rocks that are fun to pose on for pictures or use as a table to eat a picnic lunch.

Did you know that rocks dropped by glaciers are called erratics?  --now you might be able to say you learned something today :)

Yes, we're goof balls.  Dontcha, love it?
And this has to be one of my new favorite snaps of Katie!  Smiling ear to ear, big pink tongue, and you can see all those leaves and moss bits in her coat.  Yup.  This is a classic Katie shot!

I also have a lot going on garden-wise!

The bee balm has been blooming and attracting humming birds.  We have one particular male humming bird that seems to have claimed the garden as his.  I have yet to get a picture of him, but he's beautiful with a bright red spot under his chin.

This is just one of the many bunches of the flower that I have through out the gardens.  This is my favorite one since it has all three colors... red, fuchsia, and purple.  The purple is just starting to come and only one of the flowers is open.  The fuchsia or pink are the shorter stems next to the tall bright red ones.  I really feel like it's summer when these are in full bloom!

The veggie garden is also doing really well.  We have been enjoying lettuce (romaine and simpson), the sugar snap peas are just about ready, and tomatoes are forming by the handfuls.

My surprise this morning was to see how many cucumbers have popped up!  I mean literally last weekend I had a lot of flowers, and this morning I see four cucumbers --YUM!

Rounding out the list, the strawberries are still forming and ripening, but each time I get close to having a few I think the chipmunks are getting them first.  Sigh.  Some for them, hopefully some for me!

And that last picture on the bottom right are the jalapenos.  With the cold and rain, I didn't think the hot peppers would work out at all.  But, I have been happy to see the little plant plugging along.  It flowered and sure enough... here come lots of peppers.  I couldn't be happier!

And last, but certainly not least... a few other flowers are beginning their show.  The hosta (two top purple flowers), the yarrow (pink one), and the daisies.  I really do love this time of year!!

No Whammy...no whammy... it's Sammy!

Ok, it's officially tomorrow.  And time to you let you in on the big surprise.  Well, not so much surprise, but the big news!

We have known for sometime that we would eventually be a two dog family.  Recently, things have lined up just so and I would like to introduce you to our newest family member.

She's tiny and fluffy.  Blond and sweet.  Complete with four legs and a tail.

This is Sammy the Golden Retriever.

Pictured here at about five weeks old.  Happy belated Birthday to Miss Sammy!

Mr Happy and I met her last week and I have to admit I have fallen head over heels.  She hasn't come to live with us yet, but as you can imagine we have spent most of our time recently preparing for her to join us!

She has the best puppy breath, softest ears, and smallest little paws!

We brought Katie with us to met the potential new member of the Happy pack.  She took the whole meeting in stride.  Sniffed around.  She was very interested.  She was careful not to step on anyone.  And as you can see little Sammy took a real liking to Katie (or she was looking for milk...)

Although, beyond milk interest, Sammy was also trying to bounce in front of Katie to get her attention.  Too cute!  Yup, wait till I get that on a video clip to share here!

We are still waiting to hear how her first vet check up goes.  And then after that we will finalize when we can bring her home.  It may be as soon as this Friday!

Can you tell I'm excited... and so is Katie!!?  I can't wait to introduce Sammy to her new home and extended family.

* I'm looking forward moments when I catch the two dogs curled up together.
* I am excited to teach Sammy to sit, lay down, and come with hand signs.
* I'm looking forward to showing Sammy the lake and taking her for her first swim.
* I can't wait to see the pups share a toy or bone.
* I look forward to that moment where we all cuddle up for a nap -- our first official 'two dog night.'
* Or how about Sammy's first hike!

Yes, it's going to be an awesome puppy summer!  Any other two dog (or two pet) mammas want to share any tips or advice as we begin this fantastic journey?  How's that for big news!!!

Hope you're having a great start to the week!! xoxo

Texas.. up close and personal

I had the privilege, in 2006, to see the Horns at practice.  It was an amazing experience in a million different ways.  Really emotional.  Really hard to put in words.  Best way I can say it was.. that it was electric!!

Let me share a bit of Austin and the Longhorns with you:

Here's the Capital of Texas.  Gorgeous!

Can you tell I'm excited?  Here are a few snaps from the practice.  Took these before I realized I wasn't supposed to.  I felt bad, but at the same time.. how cool that I got pictures of Colt McCoy before he was the real thing (he's the QB if you didn't know)!!  And now here he is ... 4 years later .... leading Texas in a fight for the National Championship!  I feel like I've been able to be a real part of it!

I'm just going to let the snaps flow now.  The game will start soon... GO HORNS!!  No matter what... I LOVE YA!!    Hook 'em  \m/  WHOOT WHOOT!!!!

Yes, that's Colt with his helmet off!  Yes, that's the UT Tower lite up in burnt orange!  Yes, that's me.  Yes, I have goosebumps.

For me... Cheering my head off for Texas = happiness!!

AND.. I have a nice little surprise for you when Texas wins!  Bet you can't guess what it is ;)
