My Big Huge Weekend Recap

I have found myself lately with a lot of three day weekends.  And it's been wonderful!!  This weekend was no exception.  I also have to admit that I find myself ignoring the computer as much as possible over these long weekends (looking forward to catching up with you and your blogs!).

So, what do I do with all this free time?  I have no clue.  It always seems to go by too quickly, but thank goodness for digital cameras to catch glimpses of the excitement. 

I feel like this is my book report on what I did this weekend...

I finished the last of the flowers on my crewel project and worked on the borders.  I can't wait to show you more of this tomorrow... because yes! I finished this and even made it in to a pillow!!!

I am finally working on rehabbing an old sewing table I was given.  I'll give you more of the back story another day, but here I cleaned it, primed it, and yes... I have even painted it a bright inspiring color!!  More to come in this saga!

 I changed out the old dingy and puppy chewed laces on my kicks.  Loving the bright party blue!!

I went to the Sheep and Wool Festival.  Bonus, was getting to share it with my mom and sister (in love).  It was awesome!!

I got to see a baby kangaroo

I loved this picture of a llama decked out with feathers.

I got up close and personal with sheep, goats, llamas, and even alpacas!!  You haven't lived until you have pet an alpaca!!!

I was inspired by a sea of deep amazing colors in every direction!  It was a place to really touch your way through... I've never felt so much soft yarn in one place.

I came home with a few goodies for myself.  A few green and brown wools to work into my fiber art piece. 

And I picked up some baby alpaca wool and am working it into a nice long and soft scarf for myself.  I am loosely following this project, but am thinking more scarf than shrug.

And there you have it.  Things I didn't grab shots of.... Cold Stone ice cream in cake batter flavor, an amazing steak cooked up by my very own Mr. Happy, puppy wrangling -- Sammy gets her stitches out this week, bathroom remodeling, and goodness knows I'm forgetting probably a ton of other things.

I guess this could also be called my Big Huge Teaser Post... since I have so much more to show you on most of these projects.

Creative Tuesday: Scarf

Happy Tuesday Loves!  It's time for  Mr. Toast's Creative Tuesday's.  Still hands down my favorite pencil and paper creative time!

This time around the theme was Scarf.  And there was an extra requirement to make sure we put a scarf in our piece.  Easy enough, right?

It's interesting for me to admit that my original ideas and sketches were leaning toward a cute animal all bundled up against a snowy background.  But, I just could do it.  I had previously done animals in scarves (you can see that here). 

I needed something fresh; something to take me away from the fact that we got more snow and I'm getting a wee bit done with winter already (I know -- I can hear you saying, but it's only January and NY winters are supposed to be cold.  I know.  But my shovelling muscles are already bulging!)

So, my idea centers around where do all the scarves go once it's spring?  I know that my winter ones are rotated out, washed and packed away, but what if scarves were like say.. Santa ... and they went on vacation during the spring?  (yes, the snow may be making me a bit more loopy than usual ...go with me on this... after all this is me, the same one who dreamt up faerie apples!)

Warm Snuggly Birds ("B" don't look)

If your name starts with a "B"... and ends with an "A"... and you might be my sister-in-law... then do me a favor and come back after Christmas?  Yes, these birds are flying your way... but seriously... don't ruin the surprise -- love ya!!

Naked birds?  Can't have that.

For those of us who know people with bird decked Christmas tree's then these are a must make!

I bought a package of doves from the local craft store.  I'm sure really any birds would do -- well, maybe not vultures or crows.

Hello in there!  How's it goin'?

I took a pile 'o scraps from recent projects and began the task of making little neck warmers for these fine feathered lovelies!

"You're making those for me?"

"May I have a red one?"

For the size of these birds I used a 2 inch fabric strip.  Folded in half - right sides together.  Sewed down the open end.

A trick to turn small things inside out is to pin a safety pin at one end and use the pin to feed the fabric through.

And there you have it!  One red scarf for a tiny little bird.  Before I secured this one on I made a bunch more scarves.

Here are a bunch of scarves together.  I did cut the ends to make it look fringed.  Fun small details make my day!

I ended up using a hot glue gun to keep the scarves in place.  One dob on the back of the neck and then another under the criss-cross felt very secure to keep these in place.

Fashionable no?

Here is the family of birds together all with their new neck wear to show off!  I then just slipped these guys back in their original box and wrapped up this giftie!

Looking back on these pictures today, I am hoping they have something on their feel to be used to secure them to the tree branches -- like a twistie-tie or something.  If not, I am sure we can come up with something!!

Fun to take something a bit plain and give it some personalized flare!!
